De Digital Immigration Card is verplicht voor alle buitenlandse bezoekers om door de immigratie op Curaçao toegelaten te worden. Inwoners van Curaçao zijn vrijgesteld van het invullen van de immigratiekaart.

Belangrijke opmerking: De DI-kaart is gratis wanneer u deze aanvraagt via de officiële website van de overheid (https://dicardcuracao.com/). Let op: veel websites van derden brengen kosten in rekening voor deze dienst, die anders gratis is.

Omzeil de wachtrij en gebruik de fast track op luchthaven Hato

Na het invullen van de DI Card, worden reizigers die hiervoor in aanmerking komen (het is voornamelijk beschikbaar voor reizigers uit bepaalde landen, waaronder de EU, het Verenigd Koninkrijk, de VS en Canada, die 16 jaar of ouder zijn en een e-paspoort hebben) doorverwezen om de gratis Airside Digital Identity App te downloaden.

Binnen deze app verifiëren reizigers hun identiteit door een selfie te nemen en hun e-paspoort (een paspoort met een chip) te scannen. De app vergelijkt veilig de biometrische gegevens van het gezicht en de paspoortgegevens om de identiteit van de reiziger te bevestigen. Deze informatie wordt opgeslagen op hun telefoon en niet op een centrale server, wat een belangrijk veiligheidskenmerk is.

Bij aankomst op de luchthaven Hato kunnen passagiers die dit proces hebben doorlopen, gebruikmaken van speciale "Express Pass"-doorgangen. In plaats van een traditionele handmatige controle gebruiken ze gewoon contactloze eGates die hun gezicht scannen om hun identiteit te verifiëren en ze snel door te laten.

To ensure your stay is both safe and enjoyable, we have compiled the most important traffic rules and local driving habits. While driving here is generally relaxed, there are a few "island rules" you should know.

1. Important Traffic Rules

• Roundabout Rules: Curaçao is currently updating its infrastructure. Always check the road markings (shark teeth) upon approach.
  On recently renovated new roundabouts (marked with clear new signs and "shark teeth" on the road), traffic already on the roundabout has the right of way.
  On older roundabouts, the traditional rule applies: traffic entering from the right has priority.
• Priority from the Right: At equivalent intersections without signs, traffic coming from the right has the right of way.
• T-Junctions: Traffic on the through road (the top of the 'T') always has priority over traffic coming from the side street, regardless of whether they come from the left or right.
• Overtaking: On multi-lane roads (like the 'Ring'), overtaking is common on both the left and right sides.

2. Road Safety & Conditions

• Slippery When Wet: This is critical. When it rains, the roads become extremely slippery due to a mix of dust and oil. Reduce your speed immediately and double your following distance.
• Local Communication: A short honk usually means "thank you" or "hello." If someone flashes their headlights at you, they are usually yielding to let you go first.
• Wildlife: Especially in the Westpunt area near Lagun, be alert for goats, iguanas, or donkeys crossing the road, particularly at dusk.

3. Navigation & Tech

• Offline Maps: Mobile signal can be weak in the hills of Westpunt. Download the "Curaçao" map on Google Maps for offline use, or use the Maps.me app.
• Local SIM: For reliable data, you can buy a local SIM card (Flow or Digicel) at the airport (Hato) or in town.

4. How to Gas Up

Gas stations on the island are 'pre-pay':

1. Park at the pump and note the number.
2. Go to the cashier window and pay first (Cash/Card).
3. The pump will be activated. If your tank is full before you spend the total amount, return to the window for your change.

5. Security & Parking

• Nothing of Value: To prevent car break-ins, never leave valuables in your car. At beaches, it is common practice to leave the car unlocked and the glove compartment open to show there is nothing worth taking.

6. What to do in case of an accident?

• Do not move the vehicle. Even if you are blocking the road, the insurance requires the cars to stay in their exact positions.
• Call Forensys (199): This is the mobile accident service. They must create an official report on the spot.
• Notify your car rental agency immediately.

Tip: Take it easy and enjoy the scenery. The drive to Lagun is one of the most beautiful routes on the island!

Vanaf Hato International Airport (ongeveer 32 minuten met de auto)

Korte route beschrijving: Hato Airport → Lagun Blou Beach & Dive Resort

1. Verlaat Hato Airport en sla rechtsaf naar de hoofdweg.
2. Bij Rotònde di Zegu, de rotonde met de ijzeren boog neemt u de 1e afslag (Weg naar Westpunt).
3. Volg deze weg rechtdoor (u komt door Tera Corá).
4. Bij het blauwe bord “Lagun 16 km” slaat u linksaf.
5. Rijd rechtdoor, ga door Soto (let op de verkeersdrempels).
6. U komt aan in Lagun (grote witte letters “LAGUN” op een heuvel, rechts).
7. Linksaf vóór de weg zich splitst in twee rijstroken (met een boom in het midden).
8. Passeer Bahia Inn / Bahia Diving aan uw rechterhand.
9. Volg de hobbelige weg omhoog, met een bocht naar rechts → u ziet de poort van Lagun Blou.
10. Druk op de intercom, parkeer de auto en meld u bij de receptie (groot gebouw links).

Vanuit het centrum van Willemstad (ongeveer 39 minuten met de auto)

Voor een routebeschrijving vanaf het Briónplein, het plein in Otrabanda, ten westen van de Koningin Emmabrug (Pontjesbrug) over St. Anna Baai, klikt u op deze kaart of volgt u deze korte routebeschrijving:

1. Ga vanaf het Brión Plein in zuidelijke richting over De Rouvilleweg naar het Rif Fort.
2. Neem bij de rotonde de 1e afslag naar de Pater Euwensweg.
3. Rijd rechtdoor; de weg verandert van naam (Helmin Magno Biels Boulevard → Weg naar Westpunt bij Juan Domingo).
4. Blijf ongeveer 12 minuten op deze weg rijden totdat u bij Rotònde di Zegu komt, de rotonde met de ijzeren boog.
5. Op de rotonde neemt u de derde afslag.
6. Volg verder vanaf punt 3 van de Korte route beschrijving: Hato Airport → Lagun Blou Beach & Dive Resort.

Water & Sun Essentials

• Water Shoes
  This is the most commonly overlooked item. Playa Lagun and nearby beaches such as Grote Knip have pebbly or coral-covered entry points. Water shoes make swimming and snorkeling much more comfortable.
• Reef-Safe Sunscreen
  Curaçao is close to the equator, so UV levels are very high year-round. Trade winds keep you cool, but sunburn can happen quickly, especially when swimming or snorkeling. We recommend using a reef-safe sunscreen with at least SPF 30 (SPF 50 preferred) to protect both your skin and the delicate coral reefs.
• A Hat with a Strap
  The west coast can be surprisingly windy, especially near cliffside viewpoints. A hat with a chin strap stays in place and provides reliable sun protection.
• Snorkel Gear
  Lagun Blou offers excellent snorkeling directly from the shoreline. Bringing your own well-fitting mask and snorkel improves comfort and visibility — and increases your chances of spotting the sea turtles often seen at Playa Lagun.

Health & Comfort

• Reusable Water Bottle
  Tap water in Curaçao is safe, high quality, and produced from desalinated seawater. Refilling your bottle saves money and reduces plastic waste.
• Insect Repellent (DEET or Picaridin)
  Mosquitoes are most active around dusk and dawn, especially after rainfall. Applying repellent to exposed skin is the easiest way to stay comfortable. Products containing DEET, Picaridin, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, or IR3535 are widely available both at home and in local supermarkets.
• After-Sun Care (Aloe Vera)
  Even with sunscreen, the Caribbean sun is strong. After-sun lotion helps soothe and hydrate your skin.

Logistics & Tech

• Offline Maps (Google Maps or Maps.me)
  If you’re renting a car, download Curaçao maps in advance. Mobile signal can be limited in some areas of the island.
• Cash (USD or Caribbean Guilders)
  Credit cards are widely accepted, but small beach snack bars and local “snackis” may be cash-only. Cash is also appreciated for tipping supermarket staff who help pack and carry groceries to your car.
• Power Adapter
  The resort primarily uses US-style plugs, with some European outlets available. To be on the safe side, bring a universal adapter.

Lagun Beach Resort is one of the quieter, more remote parts of the island. This means you won’t find large supermarkets directly in Lagun itself — but you do have several practical options, depending on whether you prioritize convenience or the best selection and prices.

Closest & Most Practical Options

Around Lagun, the nearest grocery options are small local markets. These are fine for basics such as water, snacks, bread, and limited produce, but not ideal for a full grocery shop. For larger shopping trips, most visitors stop at a supermarket on the way from Willemstad.

Best Supermarkets for a Full Stock-Up

These are the most commonly recommended full-size supermarkets for guests staying in the area of Lagun:

1. Centrum Supermarket  - Weg naar Bullenbaai, Piscadera; open 07.30 - 20.00 (Sundays until 18.00) – 

• Large store with a good selection and reasonable prices
• Very convenient stop when driving from the airport or Willemstad toward Lagun

2. Carrefour Market – Sambil Mall, Veeris 27; open 07.30 - 20.30 (Sundays: 09.00 - 19.00)

• Modern supermarket with a wide variety, including international brands
• Slightly more upscale
• Excellent for barbecue supplies — the Argentinian tournedos are a standout
• Great selection of French wines

These two supermarkets are the most frequently recommended for anyone staying in the western part of the island.

Smaller Options Closer to Lagun

These won’t always appear in major listings, but are very useful once you’re settled:

• New California Market - Tera Kora, along the road to Westpunt. This is essentially your last supermarket before the shops become much smaller local minimarkets or "tokos."
  
  A local favorite for quick restocking, with a very decent selection for its size. However, their selection of fresh meat and specialized produce can be more limited compared to the larger chains in Willemstad.

• Local minimarkets in Barber and Tera Kora
  Good for essentials, drinks, and snacks.

What Most Visitors Do
A simple and effective routine:

• Stop at Centrum or Carrefour on your way to Lagun for a full grocery shop.
• Use New California Market or local minimarkets for small top-ups during your stay.

Upon arrival from the airport:

When driving from the airport toward Westpunt, it is most efficient to stop at Centrum Supermarket for a full grocery shop. Do not turn onto the Westpunt road immediately at the large roundabout with the metal iguanas. Instead, continue for about two kilometres on the main road toward Willemstad, then turn right onto Weg Naar Bullenbaai to reach the supermarket. After shopping, return to the main road and continue toward Westpunt.
