Travel information

Digital Immigration Card

All international visitors are required to complete the Digital Immigration Card (DI card) within 7 days prior to departure. The Digital Immigration card is a mandatory card for all foreign travelers to clear immigration in Curaçao. Residents of Curaçao are exempted from filling out the Immigration card.

Important Note: The DI Card is free of charge when you apply through the official government website (https://dicardcuracao.com/). Be aware that many third-party websites charge a fee for this service, which is otherwise free.

Apply for the DI card here.

Curaçao Express Pass: Bypass the queue and use the fast track at Hato airport

After completing the DI Card, eligible travelers (it is primarily available for travelers from specific countries, including EU, UK, US, and Canada, who are 16 or older and have an e-passport) are directed to download the free Airside Digital Identity App.

Within this app, travelers verify their identity by taking a selfie and scanning their e-passport (a passport with a chip). The app securely compares the facial biometrics and passport data to confirm the traveler's identity. This information is stored on their phone, not on a central server, which is a key security feature.

Upon arrival at Hato International airport, passengers who have completed this process can use designated "Express Pass" lanes. Instead of a traditional manual check, they simply use contactless eGates that scan their face to verify their identity and allow them to pass through quickly.

Other Information

Currency exchange rates & Payment Methods

The currency of Curaçao is the Caribbean guilder (with the currency code XCG).

The Caribbean guilder is pegged to the U.S. Dollar at an exchange rate of USD 1.00 = XCG 1.79. This makes the exchange rate stable and predictable for travelers.

To convert your currency to XCG simply check the OANDA Currency Converter.

While the guilder is the official currency, the US Dollar is widely accepted everywhere on the island, including in hotels, restaurants, shops, and for taxis.

Most major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, and larger stores. However, it is wise to carry some cash for smaller purchases, local markets, food trucks, and at gas stations, which often only accept cash.

Do not rely on iDEAL for your day-to-day spending in Curaçao.

Transportation

For the ultimate freedom to explore the island, we highly recommend renting a car during your stay. It's the most convenient way to discover all of Curaçao, from secluded beaches to vibrant downtown Willemstad.
